FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The short answers to what people ask most. For anything else, get in touch directly.

About the site Is Epilepsy Sucks an official charity?

No. This is Kevin's personal website and marathon fundraiser page — not a registered nonprofit. The charity is CURE Epilepsy, a 501(c)(3) research organization. Kevin is running the ASICS LA Marathon on March 7, 2027 to raise money for them.

Donating Where does my donation actually go?

Every Donate button on this site links out to Kevin's official fundraiser page on Haku, which sends funds directly to CURE Epilepsy — money never passes through Kevin or this website.

Donating Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes, to the extent allowed by law — CURE Epilepsy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. You'll get a receipt from Haku/CURE Epilepsy, not from Kevin or this site.

Donating Why does the fundraising total on this site sometimes look a little behind?

The progress bars and totals you see here (in the nav, on the homepage, and on the fundraising page) sync automatically from the live Haku fundraiser data every time the page loads, so a brand-new donation can take a short moment to sync through. If that sync ever fails, you'll see a note saying the numbers may be out of date rather than a silent, stale display.

About the content Is anything on this site medical advice?

No. Everything here — the journey, the recovery chapters, the seizure/neuron simulations — is Kevin's own personal experience and general public information, not medical guidance. Talk with a clinician for care decisions, and call 911 for emergencies. The Resources page has seizure first-aid basics and links to trusted organizations.

Getting involved I can't donate right now — how else can I help?

Plenty of ways: follow along and share Kevin's training on Instagram, leave a note in the guestbook, share this site with someone who'd want to see it, or just help spread the word that epilepsy research needs funding. Every bit of reach helps as much as a dollar amount.

About Kevin Who is Kevin, and why is he running a marathon?

Kevin was diagnosed with cerebral hemiatrophy and epilepsy at age 8, went through three brain surgeries over the years that followed, and finally found a DBS setting in 2026 that gave him his life back. He's running the 2027 LA Marathon to raise money for CURE Epilepsy's research and awareness — read the full story.

Site & accessibility I found a bug, broken link, or accessibility barrier — who do I tell?

Please do — reach out here and Kevin reads every message. See the accessibility statement for what's already been tested and built in.
