About

About this site

I'm Kevin. In 1998, at eight years old, I was diagnosed with cerebral hemiatrophy — one half of my brain measurably smaller than the other — which went on to cause a lifetime of epileptic seizures. A 2017 left temporal lobectomy, a 2019 vagus nerve stimulator, and a 2022 deep brain stimulation implant followed, along with 154 pounds lost and a complete rebuild of how I live day to day. The full version of that story is on My Journey; where things stand with recovery and daily life is on Recovery & Life Today.

Why this site exists

On March 7, 2027, I'm running the LA Marathon — 26.2 miles from Dodger Stadium to Century City — to raise money for CURE Epilepsy, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that funds epilepsy research. The full reasoning, training log, and fundraising progress live on LA Marathon 2027. Logging every run and every mile in public is partly accountability and partly the point: a visible, honest record that training around three brain surgeries and a job on my feet is possible, not just a nice idea.

How this site is built

Janitor in the daytime, junior software engineer by nighttime. I built and still run this entire site myself — no agency, no template. It's plain HTML/CSS/JS, a Neon Postgres database, serverless Vercel functions, and Cursor AI as my daily development partner. The source is public on GitHub, and the full architecture breakdown — stack diagram, deploy pipeline, the works — is on the Community page.
